Marking Sacred Moments Together

Milestones and Traditions

Ritual and Worship

From Generation to Generation

To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

At Broward Central Synagogue, we know that Jewish life is built around sacred moments of transition, moments of joy, growth and reflection. Our clergy team and both of our campuses are here to accompany members and non-members alike through every milestone of life’s journey. From birth to maturity, from celebration to loss, we are honored to walk beside you, offering spiritual guidance, tradition and community at every stage.

Welcoming new life into our Jewish family

B'rit Milah and Baby Naming

And on the eighth day, the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.” Leviticus 12:3

The arrival of a new baby, boy or girl, is a moment of pure blessing and joy. Our clergy are here to support you from the very beginning of your child’s life. If you need a mohel for a b’rit milah, we can assist with recommendations and spiritual guidance. If you are planning a baby naming (Simchat Bat) for your daughter, our clergy team is available to help design a meaningful ceremony.

Services can be held during Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday evening, Shabbat morning with Torah reading, or at your home surrounded by family and friends.

For more information, please contact our synagogue office or any member of our clergy team.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Teach a child according to their way; even when they grow old, they will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

The transition from childhood to Jewish adulthood is one of the most significant moments in life. At Broward Central Synagogue, we offer personalized preparation and guidance for each student, ensuring that every bar or bat mitzvah experience is meaningful and unique.

Our services typically take place on Saturday mornings at 9:30am, though families may also choose to celebrate on Saturday afternoons at Minchah/Havdalah, or Thursday mornings with T’fillin.

We also offer a special b’not mitzvah track for girls in 6th grade, led by Valeria Michanie, fostering leadership, learning and connection.

For more information about our b’nai mitzvah programs or to schedule a meeting with our clergy, please contact our office.

The B’not Mitzvah Together

Our b’not mitzvah program offers a weekly gathering for 6th-grade girls, where they learn essential traditions and rituals, preparing them for their upcoming bat mitzvahs and includes a trip to New York City. Throughout this journey, students will explore the role of women in Judaism and discover the beauty of our rituals and traditions through a series of weekly sessions. Each session aims to deepen their understanding and appreciation of their heritage. At the culmination of this program, participants will celebrate their b’not mitzvah as a group at Broward Central Synagogue. The ceremony will be a testament to togetherness, friendship and our love for Judaism. We will share stories from our journey while learning together. We will recite meaningful poems and quotes from inspirational Jewish sources, which we have studied with the guidance of our rabbi. Additionally, under the leadership of our cantor, we will joyously sing a selection of songs.

Joining hearts and traditions in joyful celebration

Weddings

I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.” Song of Songs 6:3

A wedding is a sacred moment of joy and commitment. Our clergy team is available to serve and guide both members and non-members through every step of the process, from planning and preparation to standing together under the chuppah. Within our diverse clergy, you will find someone whose warmth and style will help you create a ceremony that reflects your love, your values and your story.

Comfort and compassion in times of sickness

Hospital Visits, Hospice and Pastoral Care

I will be with you in your time of trouble.” Psalm 91:15

In moments of pain, uncertainty, or illness, our clergy are here to offer compassion, presence, and prayer. Whether through hospital visits, calls or home visits, we provide comfort and strength to those facing health challenges or to those accompanying loved ones through them.

Comfort and compassion in times of loss

Funerals and Shiva

May God comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”

At the most difficult times of life, when words often fail, our clergy and community are here to offer comfort and support. We provide funeral services, life celebrations and shiva guidance, whether held at a cemetery, in our synagogue campuses or in your home.

We also offer ongoing pastoral support, grief resources and community presence throughout the mourning process.

At Broward Central Synagogue, we believe that life’s sacred milestones connect us to our tradition, to one another and to God. Whatever season you are in, you do not walk it alone. We are here, as your community, every step of the way.
