About Dvir Weiss

Dvir has been a Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El family member since 2005. A native Israeli, Dvir grew up in Holon. His knowledge of security measures began as a member of a special intelligence unit of the Israel Defense Force. Upon leaving the IDF, Dvir studied electrical engineering and completed his education in the United States after receiving his degree from the University of Miami College of Engineering. His first position in the United States was with a local security firm in a special Israeli unit that specialized in the safety and security of Jewish institutions, synagogues and schools.

Dvir was also an instrumental force in shaping the vision that led to the creation of Broward Central Synagogue (BSC). From the earliest planning stages he brought clarity, determination and a deep understanding of the community’s needs. His leadership and commitment helped transform the initial concept into a thriving spiritual center and ensured that BSC was built on a foundation of purpose, safety and long-term sustainability.

Dvir came to TKAE as the director of security but quickly added to his responsibilities. He works closely with local police, FBI and Homeland Security and he is a consultant who helps nonprofit businesses develop campus security measures. Together with local law enforcement agencies and the Jewish Federation of Broward County, Dvir established the Secure Zone Program throughout the tri-county area. This program created a communications system portal within the Jewish community so representatives of organizations can immediately share information regarding security issues that are pertinent to the Jewish community. He was also instrumental in securing a grant that allowed TKAE’s security features to be put in place including cameras, complete fencing, guard house, gates and card access throughout the campus.

Dvir’s vision and commitment to strategic planning were largely responsible for the Imagine Charter School’s opening on the campus in 2012. He also acted as project manager for the state-of-the-art Early Childhood building through which he watched all three of his children pass.

Dvir is a member of FASTA (Florida Association of Synagogue and Temple Administrators) and NATA (National Association of Temple Administrators). In his free time you can usually find him experimenting with extreme sports or relaxing with his family including his wife Sharon and his children Inbar, Ofir and Ariel.
